At Watt & Severin, we believe the relationship between solicitor and client matters. We take the time to understand our clients, their circumstances and what they are trying to achieve, and we work closely with them throughout their matter.
Our approach is professional but personal. We want our clients to feel comfortable picking up the phone, asking a question or telling us when something does not make sense.
Sometimes the conversation goes beyond the immediate legal issue. That is often important. Understanding the circumstances surrounding a transaction, dispute or decision can help us give better and more practical advice.
Meet the team
Penny Severin
Principal / Solicitor
Penny has worked in legal practice since joining James Watt & Co in 2005. Admitted as a solicitor in 2009, she became a partner of Watt & Severin in 2011 and is now Principal of the firm.
Penny practises across property, commercial law, wills and estates, retirement living and elder law. Her approach is practical, thorough and personal. She takes the time to understand both the legal issue and the circumstances surrounding it, believes clients should understand the advice they receive and encourages questions, particularly when navigating unfamiliar or difficult legal issues.
Daniel Hall
Practice Manager
With around 25 years’ experience in the legal industry, Dan brings extensive practical experience and a genuine interest in all aspects of legal practice. As Practice Manager, he enjoys getting to know clients, meeting new people and helping make their experience with Watt & Severin as comfortable and positive as possible.
Dan has a particular interest in estate administration and estate planning, as well as conveyancing.
Outside the office, Dan’s family is his priority. A keen sports follower, he is a passionate Brisbane Broncos supporter and an even bigger fan of the Olympic Games — and is already looking forward to Brisbane 2032.

Although you will know who is responsible for your matter, our team works together.
Different matters can draw on different areas of law. A property transaction may raise estate planning or commercial issues. A business sale may involve property or leasing. A retirement living decision may involve the sale of the family home, estate planning and questions about enduring powers of attorney.
Having a team that understands those connections allows us to look beyond the immediate transaction when circumstances require it.

Brandon McKenzie
Paralegal
Brandon has eight years’ experience in the legal industry, with a strong background in residential and commercial property matters. He has acted for major property developers, gaining valuable experience across property development, transactions and the legal issues that arise throughout a project.
Brandon brings strong legal knowledge and a practical, commercially focused approach to his work. He understands the importance of clear advice, responsive service and working effectively with clients and other industry professionals to keep matters moving.
